Hiking in Mallorca

Mallorca is one of the most developed hiking destinations in the Mediterranean. Although the island is widely known for beaches, it actually has a large and diverse hiking network, ranging from short coastal walks to multi-day mountain treks.

  • The island has hundreds of individual walking routes distributed across mountain ranges, coastlines, forests, and rural valleys.

  • Databases such as Wikiloc contain thousands of user-recorded routes, reflecting the dense network of historic paths and shepherd trails.

  • Most of the serious hiking is concentrated in the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range running along Mallorca’s northwest coast.

    Cap De Formentor (EASY)

    Coastal Walk (Easy)

    Time: ~2–3 hours
    Distance: 6–10 km

    This is a relatively easy coastal trail with gentle elevation changes and wide paths. It’s perfect if you want a short hike with big views and minimal technical difficulty.

    Highlights

    Dramatic cliff-top views over the Mediterranean &Lighthouse viewpoints with rugged coastal scenery.

    This is one of the most photogenic areas on the island.

  • Alaro (Moderate)

    Location : Alaró village
    Time: ~3 hours
    Distance: 7–10 km

    Highlights

    Ruins of the hilltop Alaró Castle

    Forest trails through pine woods

    Panoramic views over central Mallorca

    This hike climbs gradually to the ruins of a medieval fortress perched high above the valley. The path is well maintained and the view from the top is spectacular, the lamb restaurant halfway up is incredible, There’s also a refuge and cafe at the top with stunning views all the way back to the Sea.

    Barranc de Biniaraix Gorge (Moderate)

    Location: Biniaraix village near Sóller
    Time: 3–4 hours

    Highlights

    A beautiful stone-paved historic trail

    Dramatic gorge with waterfalls in winter

    Olive terraces and traditional dry-stone walls

    The trail climbs through a rocky gorge via thousands of old stone steps. It’s one of the most classic traditional paths in the Tramuntana mountains.

    Camí de s’Arxiduc (Moderate–Hard)

    Location: Valldemossa
    Time: 3–4 hours
    Distance: 10–12 km

    Stunning ridge walk overlooking the sea

    Views across the entire Serra de Tramuntana

    This is a fantastic ridge hike with almost constant views over cliffs and mountains. It’s steeper and more exposed than the previous hikes but still doable for most hikers.

    Torrent de Pareis Gorge (Hard)

    Location: Escorca → Sa Calobra
    Time: 5–6 hours
    Distance: 7–9 km

    Highlights

    A huge limestone canyon with towering walls

    Boulder scrambling through a dry riverbed

    Dramatic finish at Sa Calobra beach

    This is one of the most famous hikes in Mallorca. It’s physically demanding because you scramble over rocks inside the canyon, but the scenery is unforgettable. It’s recommended only in dry conditions
